Vacancy - Digital Marketing Executive Position Closed

Reporting to the Marketing Manager as part of a data-led, innovative team, you will be responsible for the creation, development and implementation of marketing campaigns to promote Aston Villa Football Club’s range of products and services and increase return on investment for all marketing activity as prescribed in the KPI’s of each activity undertaken. They will have a focus on our digital marketing channels, increasing our digital activations and touchpoints with supporters as well as developing our digital marketing strategy. The candidate will be the Club’s digital marketing lead.


Key Responsibilities 

  • Organisation and delivery of marketing e-comms schedule including email, sms, notifications, etc
  • Ownership of Club’s digital marketing activity including PPC, SEM, Display, Paid social,
  • Development of comms testing strategy including A/B testing
  • End-to-end campaign management & delivery across a full marketing mix
  • Following and developing the marketing strategy as set by the Marketing Manager
  • Report and analysis on ROI of marketing activity
  • Championing the Aston Villa brand and its values

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Planning projects, creating timelines and ensuring deadlines are met
  • Writing proposals, project plans, individual project P&L’s and timelines and managing them from start to finish with the Marketing Manager.
  • Manage the production of digital marketing materials such as e-comms, social assets, owned and paid display and various additional assets for campaigns
  • Organising and attending events led by the marketing team as required
  • Source new digital marketing opportunities and advise on effectiveness
  • Daily liaison with designers on creative, and ensure that the designs meet the brief objectives
  • Proofread design, and communications and be the ambassador for the club’s brand guidelines
  • Liaise and build relationships with a range of stakeholders across the club, on various levels
  • Be able to structure a campaign using both print, digital and experiential channels
  • Organise and attend photo shoots and club days when needed
  • Arranging the effective distribution of marketing materials with internal and external suppliers
  • Maintaining and updating marketing databases in conjunction with the CRM Manager
  • Conduct Market Research for sample surveys and questionnaires with our fans and other audiences we deem relevant
  • Contribute to marketing plans and strategies and suggest improvements
  • Be a sense check on team budgets, advising marketing spend for your departments marketing requirements on a monthly and annual basis
  • Responsible for assigning marketing activity from multiple team budgets
  • Responsible for co-ordinating the marketing of two or more departments and planning their calendar over the year, communicating the effectiveness of each activity, during and after and tweaking as needed. 
  • Evaluate marketing campaigns / activities during and after the run length of the project and record  findings
  • Attend, work, and manage marketing based events and/or matchdays as required.

Person Specification

Qualifications & Experience

  • Use of digital marketing channels including PPC, DFP, SEM
  • Experience with ESPs (email service providers) 
  • Background in end-to-end campaign management & delivery, working across a full marketing mix
  • Client and agency management experience
  • The ability to work at a fast pace on multiple projects, organised
  • Experience of working alongside designers, or creative agencies.
  • Experience of managing a team
  • Exposure to stakeholder management
  • Previous experience of a marketing team role in the sport and leisure industry.


Training, Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge & understanding of CRM and use of data to support marketing campaigns
  • Applicants must have previous work experience within a Marketing role, along with a Degree (or equivalent) in a Marketing or Communications-related discipline.
