West Bromwich Albion Football Club is a well established professional football club with a proud heritage and a leading brand. As a founder member of the Football League, the club has built on recent success and is looking forward to a further period of growth. They now seek to hire a dynamic and forward thinking Chief Commercial Officer to drive the club's commercial functions into a new era.
The Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) is jointly responsible for the strategic direction, leadership and future development of West Bromwich Albion Football Club. Reporting in to the Chief Executive, the CCO has overarching responsibility for all commercial operations and revenue-generating activities. The exact scale and breadth of this responsibility will be dependent on the successful candidate’s direct and relevant career experience and qualifications, but will include some, or all, of the following:
Sponsorship / Advertising / Digital / Broadcast / International Development / Ticketing / Hospitality / Licensing / Retail
Oversee all commercial and revenue-generating activities for the club, through buy-in and agreement with the Board.
Take a lead role with the Head of Sales in identifying and developing relationships with potential sponsors, pro-actively lead on contract negotiations and maintain strong and effective relationships with existing sponsors.
Maintain and demonstrate a clear focus on return on investment in all commercial deals.
Work with the Head of Digital, Marketing & Communications to harness skills and experience across the organisation to further build the clubs brand and reputation globally and to help grow the participation and fan bases.
Lead the strategy to continue to commercially develop and improve the fan and brand experience at The Hawthorns Stadium; accountable to the Board for stadium commercial revenues and the brand experience.
Work closely with Senior Management Team to ensure that each area operates to the highest standards and delivers for the business.
The efficient and successful leadership of the Commercial Department and its component parts, ensuring the day to day operation and delivery of the full range of services under the job holder’s direction to agreed performance targets and standards.
Work closely with the Senior Management Team to provide support and guidance to develop their commercial strategies and ensure their effective governance, commercial returns and quality of performance.
Provide clear, decisive, appropriate and respected direction and leadership within the club and the Commercial Directorate.
Set, agree and direct the business plans and budgets for each department and direct report managers.
Set objectives for Commercial Department staff and ensure the effective achievement of those objectives, providing leadership, guidance, motivation, feedback and support as required.
Implement regular reviews of progress and reporting on performance as an integral part of the club’s performance management process.
Provide leadership and support to ensure that individual business areas have the resources and capability to deliver their results.
Take appropriate corrective action where required, ensuring that the highest standards of quality and service are delivered.
STRATEGY AND GOVERNANCE
Implement the Strategic Plan initiatives for the Commercial Department and the achievement of the relevant Strategic Plan objectives
Provide clear, decisive and respected direction and leadership within the clubIn conjunction with the CEO and Financial Director, develop a practical system of results measurement to deliver relevant and timely information necessary to assess and monitor progress against the annual operating plan objectives.
Ensure that all activities are conducted within departmental budgets and personal authorisation limits, securing maximum value for money in the most economic and cost-effective way at all times.
Advise the Chief Executive and Board of Directors of all material developments within the Commercial area and recommend action or additional resources required to meet strategic goalsAct as an ambassador for, and promote the best interests of, the club at all times.
Undertake such other duties as maybe required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the post and the needs of the club

Proven experience and success in a high profile, demanding and fast-paced commercial environment at an executive level.
Proven success at building excellent working relationships and operating effectively as a member of an executive leadership team or Board.
Evidence of sound commercial judgment and decision-making capability.
